We are a Generac Generator PowerPlay Dealer!

We have become quite skilled at sizing and installing Generac automatic standby generators in the last several years. Longo Electric LLC can design back up systems that power only the essential circuits, or your entire home. We also install portable generator inlets with manual transfer switches or mechanical interlocks. As a Generac PowerPlay dealer we can design, specify and quote your generator installation on site and we welcome the opportunity to provide this service.

Longo Electric LLC also provides routine maintenance service on all of our installations in addition to having teamed up with a Generac factory trained warranty technician. Our customers with pools have found it to be of great value to have their systems keep circulating during a power outage. In the colder months a deep freeze combined with a power outage can lead to frozen, broken pool plumbing, which can add up to thousands of dollars in repairs. Combine this with not loosing refrigerator(s) full of food, pipes inside the home not freezing, and keeping the home’s temperature at a comfortable level.

What do you want to back up?

We want to be sure that you know that Longo Electric, LLC is your on call electrical service in East Tennessee and while we love working in Blount & Knox counties, we are prepared to travel as far as our state licensing allows us.

How may we be of service to you today?

PV (Photovoltaic) module prices continue to fall!

“Get them while they are hot!”

Photovoltaic module prices are continuing to fall. Our great solar distributor has secured a truckload of 260 watt modules for less than the 250 watt modules he was stocking just a few months ago. What does this mean for you? It means that we can install a more advanced PV system for you at an even lower investment. Why not have us out this week to prepare a solar quote.

Here is why Longo Electric, LLC is a better choice for your solar installations:

We are an Electrical Contracting firm first, who specializes in energy efficiency and PV. Our competition is made up of people who have switched careers with no background in electrical theory and installations. We have Thousands of hours of classroom training as electricians and after all, PV systems are all about electricity! Secondly, we are NEC code experts and we have even helped in bringing some of the local inspectors up to speed. Thirdly, we are the only local PV installation company who can install a 100% American made and manufactured system. Our competition is installing systems that are assembled in America of components made in Japan. Technically, their systems may not qualify for the %30 Federal Tax Incentive based on the Buy American Act-it is a gray area in my opinion. We aren’t going to put our customers in a gray area, we will, however, out you in a green area! Green = Go (together we will get your job done right) Green = $(our systems pay for them selves) Green = A cleaner environment! (what is better than that)?

We have no way of knowing how far the PV module market prices will continue to drop, but the current prices are the lowest we have ever seen!

LED, It’s on!

LED, It’s on!

Boys and Girls LED lighting is here and it is now. Over the last two years we have been personally testing LED lighting technology in our homes and we are most pleased. Longo Electric can firmly recommend that you skip over using compact fluorescent lighting and invest in LED lighting. Here is why:

LED lamps are: 98% recyclable, contain no mercury, are more energy efficient than CFL lamps, last longer than any other light source, have better color rendering, dimmable and use less energy as they are dimmed, have excellent color rendering, light instantly at full brightness, don’t break like a CFL do.

So far in our own homes we have switched to LED equivalents in our table and floor lamps, switched all of our 4” recessed lighting from 50 watt PAR (incandescent) lamps to 7 watt Phillips LED’s. Converted to LED Christmas lights, and switch all of our landscape lighting installations to Kichler LED.

We feel great about our reduced energy usage and our even, well lit homes.

Please note that it is of paramount importance that you use quality LED lamps (bulbs) and components. We would be happy to guide you in the purchase and installation of energy efficient lighting and help you to invest in your home or business energy savings program.

Generators, Storm Damage & Repairs -Oh My!

It has been a long, long time since our last post, and we apologize for not keeping in touch. We do, however, want to thank all of our customers for keeping us so busy; we are extremely grateful to all of you!

In 1999 we installed dozens of residential and commercial back up generator systems, because everyone was so uncertain of what would happen when Y2K arrived (for our > 11 year old readers, nothing happened). But since then we haven’t installed that many generator systems, because the power from our local utilities has been fairly reliable. now, then, fast forward to the winter of 2010 and 2011 and then include spring and summer 2011. Our area of east Tn has seen some of the worst power outages on record and some of you are without power as I write this, and will be so for up to a week more.

I wanted to make sure that you all know that you never have to be without power at your home or office, because we can design, specify and install a backup power system that will either run your critical systems or your entire facility. A home generator system, for example, can pay for itself during the first outage alone, the payback, of course is personal comfort, heat or AC, security, and you won’t the entire contents of your refrigerators and freezers! We have several options available and we would love the opportunity to visit with you to get you online.

We also want to make sure that you know that we do emergency repair work and we are especially adept at repairing electrical services that are torn off of houses during storms (seriously, we have had a lot of practice at this service lately)!

Please do not hesitate to call us for a quote or to walk through your options.

2010 Thank you for a great year!!!

We want to take a few minutes and thank all of our great customers, vendors, distributors, friends, families, and everyone who was a part in making 2010 a great year at Longo Electric, LLC. With out the teamwork from our vendors families and friends and without the patronage of our great customers none of our successes would have been possible. We are very proud to put all of the people that surround Longo Electric into one category, “friends!”

Being friends with all of you is what makes our work fun and without fun what would the point be? so thank you again to all of you.

Some milestones that we achieved in 2010:

We added an additional service van to the roads of East Tennessee, We installed 9kW of Solar PV systems, we installed our first Solar Thermal Hot Water system, We added two new field technicians, and we invested heavily in tools, training and inventory to serve you even better in 2011.

We appreciate our relationships with each and every one of you. If you have an idea of how we can serve you better, please let us know; you can always send an email directly to me info@longoelectric.com or feel free to call 865-233-3241.

Thank you,

Dan Longo

Electrical wiring a concern with fixers, flips | Washington Examiner

Electrical wiring a concern with fixers, flips | Washington Examiner.

This link is to a story about why “DIY” electrical installations and repairs are not a good investment in ones time and money. Please insist on having your electrical work completed by a company that is:  LICENSED & INSURED!

Kemery Company hosts Knoxville’s most important Solar Seminar

We spent this past Saturday in a lively and informative meeting presented by our Solar Distributor, Kemery Company. John Kemery brought together some of the biggest players in the East Tennessee solar thermal and solar photovoltaic markets. Some of the presenters were comprised of TVA representatives, installers, customers, John Kemery himself, manufacturers, engineers, non-profit solar organizations, and Paul Platillero of Cara-Sol Energy.

The two meetings were for informational purposed and were extremely educational and informative for the audience, which was comprised of future solar customers, electrical and plumbing contractors and members of industries that are stakeholders in the East Tennessee Solar market.

The meetings took place at the U.T. Conference Center in downtown Knoxville. While Longo Electric was not a presenter, we enjoyed being able to provide answers to NEC questions and general installation questions asked by potential future customers.

This was a day of sharing knowledge and not a day of salesmanship, however, and each participant, including myself, left the room with a greater depth of solar energy knowledge.

We would like to thank our solar parts distributor for hosting this event and we look forward to attending again next year. Please stay tuned for future solar event dates, times, and locations!

Another Live One!

We commissioned another PV system in Walland, TN today. This system is comprised of 9 Sharp 224 watt panels in series. Ya’ll should come out and see the system in generation on 10/2/10 as this system is part of the 2010 Knoxville Solar Tour.

A lot of our customers think that we hung the moon (we didn’t, but don’t tell them!) We do, however, install solar systems!

Wednesday September 15, 2010. Strawberry Plains (Knoxville), TN:

Today the 2.2 kW Photovoltaic (PV) system that we installed in concert with Cara-Sol Energy of Knoxville, TN went online. Longo Electric was onsite at sunrise to perform the final tests before commissioning Mr. Koontz solar system. Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) Representatives, a Meter Specialists and Linemen were also on hand to add Mr. Koontz system to the TVA Generation Partners electrical generation grid. the Koontz solar system is just the ninth residential PV system to go online in the KUB service area. At 2240 watts Mr. Koontz system consists of 10 Sharp 224 watt panels fed into a PV Powered brand inverter. The inverter synched flawlessly with KUB’s supplied power. After approximately one hour of uptime the new solar system had already generated 3 kWh’s of electricity which will appear as a credit on Mr. Koontz future electric bills.

Longo Electric LLC is especially proud of this installation because of Mr. Koontz eagerness to embrace technology and to lower his carbon footprint. Mr. Koontz even assisted in many facets of the installation process; as a retired tradesman Mr. Koontz simply could not sit idle while we did our work, he insisted on helping!

Thanks again to the superb team from KUB, Cara-Sol, and Kemery Company, our PV supplier.
